Reappraisal

Starting in 2014, Krakow Township will be starting a 20% inspection program. This means that in the next 5 years, someone will be physically visiting your parcel to verify measurements of buildings, measure various items, and take photographs.

What does this mean? It means that we are going through our assessing database which already contains building information and we are verifying that it is accurate. It has been many years since this was last done. Any changes to our information will be updated the year following the inspection.

How does this work? We will be mailing a letter to parcels which are to be inspected in a given year. Then, if you wish to opt-out of the inspection, there will be a return form for your to complete and submit to our office. There will also be additional details on the letter we mail out.

Why do we do this? It is important and it is legally required for us to have accurate records for fair property taxation. Also many other agencies rely on our information, such as real estate agents, appraisers, banks, and other governmental agencies. It is helpful for them and the property owner that it is accurate.

Krakow Township is one of a very few townships that automatically sends out receipts with each payment that is received.  This is a very costly process for the township.  Starting with the collection of the 2015 Summer taxes, receipts will no longer be automatically sent.  If you would like a receipt you can include a self-addressed stamped envelope for a hard copy or you can submit an email address for an electronically generated receipt.  Your cancelled check has always been an acceptable form for proof of payment.  Cash payments will always receive a receipt and should be made in person.
